BUILT BY VALENTINE FRIES ON THE HURON RIVER NEAR MILAN, OHIO; IT WAS LAUNCHED ON JUNE 20, 1883. AT THE TIME IT WAS THE LARGEST SAILING SHIP IN THE WORLD AND HELD THE RECORD FOR THE MOST CARGO CARRIED ON A SINGLE VOYAGE – 100,000 BUSHELS OF CORN AND 2,500 TONS OF IRON ORE. SHE SAILED THE GREAT LAKES FOR 41 YEARS, EXPERIENCING ONLY TWO GROUNDINGS. SHE WAS TOWED TO PUT-IN-BAY AND LAID TO REST AS PART OF THE BREAKWATER PROTECTION IN 1924.
