De La REGLA WAS THE FLAG SHIP OF THE 1715 FLEET, WHCIH DEPARTED HAVANA ON JULY 24TH, 1715. SHE CARRIED 2.6 MILLION IN GOLD AND SILVER COINS AND BARS. SHE ALSO CARRIED 86 CHESTS OF “GIFTS”. THE CARGO INCLUDED VANILLA, CHOCOLATE, COPPER, LEATHER, PORCELAIN AND 11 TONS OF BRAZILWOOD. THE FLEET WAS DRIVEN ASHORE ALONG THE “TREASURE COAST”; THE De La REGLA STRUCK THE OUTER REEFS WITH SUCH FORCE THAT THE UPPER DECKS WERE WASHED OFF AND CONTINUED TOWARD SHORE. KNOWN AS THE “CORRIGAN” WRECK SHE WAS FIRST DISCOVERED IN THE 1980s AND DIVERS CONTINUE TO WORK THE SITE TODAY.
